Sandra O’Sullivan declared Carry To Fortune’s Bat Out Of Hell Hcp victory on Saturday as the biggest moment of her training career.
O’Sullivan has been training a handful of horses at the Gold Coast for over 20 years and the home-town victory didn’t come as any surprise. “She never looked like getting beaten,” an emotional O’Sullivan said after the $100,000 event. “She’s such a brilliant mare fresh.”
Carry To Fortune (5m Carry The Flag – Sequalo Fair by Sequalo) scored a soft victory at her first run since October. She showed a dazzling turn of acceleration from an outside barrier to lead and was never in danger at any stage of the 900 metre event.
The Bat Out Of Hell Hcp took her record to 6 wins in 23 starts for over $160,000 in prizemoney. She is a three-quarter sister to Sunshine Coast winner Carry to Glory (Carry the Flag) who was also G1 placed in the 2006 T.J. Smith Quality behind Reigning To Win and Danleigh.
Carry The Flag (Tenby) stood at Lyndhurst Stud for 10 years prior to his death in February 2011. He has sired 33 winners of 77 races at a 44% strike-rate with Singapore based Royal Smile his only black-type winner to date.
