Fastnet Rock topped Day 4 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Saturday evening with a half-brother to stakes winning Red Ransom sire Face Value.
Offered by Coolmore Stud, the colt will join Bev Laming’s stables which was also home to Face Value during a 28 start career topped by a G3 victory in the VRC Bobbie Lewis Stakes at Flemington.
“He’s a nice strong colt who is very athletic and looks a great prospect,” Laming said after parting with $370,000. “Obviously, I had a lot of success with his half brother and this bloke is a bit bigger.
“He’s probably not the style of horse for the 2YO Classic next year but he could make a late two-year-old.”
The Fastnet Rock – Freckled Face colt was one of six yearlings to sell for $300,000 or more on Saturday evening following the Magic Millions2YO Classic victory of Driefontein (Fastnet Rock).
Turnover reached $62.57 million at the conclusion of the Premier 1 – 4 sessions. The average price rose a fraction below 3% to $127,175 at an exceptional clearance rate of 84%. The median price of $100,000 was $10,000 higher than Sessions1 – 4 last year.
“We’re thrilled with the figures for the sale,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported. “The clearance rate is outstanding and, all in all, we’re very happy.”
Session 5 will be held at the Gold Coast complex from 11am (Qld time) on Sunday. Four lots from the Sessions 1 – 4 will be re-offered without reserve. Magic Millions has exercised the right to take possession of and reoffer the following Lots unreserved – 137, 300, 347 and 506.
