Magnus filly tops Inglis Classic Sale

Eliza Park sire Magnus featured at the top end of the market on Day 3 of the 2011 Inglis Classic Sale on Tuesday.  His filly from Fantastic Light mare Coconut Mama fetched $170,000 to the bid of Blue Sky Thoroughbreds.

The Magnus filly descends from Australia’s most famous modern day family, that of Denise’s Joy, with her second dam being the stakes placed Joie, a daughter of the Queensland Oaks winner and champion producer Joie Denise.

Day 3 of the Classic Sale saw another 9 yearlings topped $100,000.  That increased the number of six-figures lots to 13 over the course of the three-day auction.

Trade went through the $14 million barrier on Tuesday afternoon and that was a healthy increase on last year’s turnover.  The average fell just short of $34,000 which is 3% up on last year’s figure.  The median has also increased slightly to $26,000.

Fairview Park Stud’s Snitzel colt from the stakes winning Hello Pamela moved was second on the leader board when knocked down for $135,000 later in the session.

“It was a very good sale especially to increase the average and clear over 81% with a catalogue of 60 more yearlings this year,” Inglis director Jonathan D’Arcy said.  “Good types by first season sires were well received on the market and this sale has a good track record of producing future stars for young sires.”

Horses passed in over the last three days are still for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.
