Major gains at general session of Magic Millions National yearling sale

A cracking colt by Western Australian based sire Viscount topped Day 3 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on Tuesday.

The colt was offered by Kolora Lodge and was snapped up by a South African client of Magic Millions for $110,000 – a record price for the general session of the yearling sale.  He is a half brother to two winners including the four time Perth winner Magic Eight.

Catalogued as lot 2250, the colt is the fifth living foal of the Magic of Money mare Magic Number – a full sister to Perth stakes winner Vizard.

It’s not surprising the colt went to a South African buyer considering he is by the same sire as the champion sprinter Rocket Man.  Although based in Singapore, the globetrotter is raced by South African Fred Crabbia and is prepared at Kranji by former South African based horseman Patrick Shaw.

Rocket Man was a graduate of the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale when purchased from the draft of Tyreel Stud for $60,000.

Turnover for the 112 lots that changed hands on Tuesday was $620,500 which was almost double last year’s corresponding session.  The average price today of $5,540 was up over 25% on last year.  The clearance rate also grew two points to 69%.

The National Sale will come to a close on Wednesday when the Racehorse section is held from 11am (Qld time).  Highlights include quality drafts from Hudson Conway Racing, Darley Australia and Heinrich Bloodstock.
