Memorable weekend for Swettenham Stud

Dash For Cash gelding Boom ‘n’ Zoom highlighted a winning treble for Swettenham Stud with a Listed victory in the Cranbourne Cup on Sunday.

Boom ‘n’ Zoom (6g Dash For Cash – Entice by Last Tycoon) is trained locally by Ken Keys and has now earned more than $268,000 since breaking his maiden at Echuca in June 2009.  Keys bought him for $40,000 at the 2007 Adelaide Magic Millions.

He is owned by Keys’ wife Louise in partnership with Colin & Karen Clements, Hans & Gail Frenken and Tom Royal.

“Winning our home-town Cup has been the plan for a fair while,” Keys said.  “The blinkers went on and everything went our way.  We haven’t looked too far ahead but the Bendigo Cup will suit him.”

Boom ‘n’ Zoom came with a barnstorming finish to the roar of a partisan crowd.  He won running away by nearly three lengths from NZ bred stayers Paddy O’Reilly (O’Reilly) and Ginga Dude (Istidaad).

Boom ‘n’ Zoom was bred and sold by Caithness Farm’s Sean Dingwall.  The lightly raced grey gelding is the sixth stakes winner for Dash For Cash and is the first foal of Adelaide winner Entice.

Dingwall sent Entice back to Swettenham and she has a yearling colt by the stud’s Stravinsky sire Soldier’s Tale.

The Cup was the middle leg of a very successful day for Swettenham at Cranbourne.

Dash For Cash sired the first leg of a winning double when Dash For Viz landed the Myer Fashions On The Field (1000m).

Dash For Viz (5g Dash For Cash – Miss Academic by Royal Academy) was bred by Melbourne bloodstock agent Peter Ford.  Another local, he is trained by Robbie Griffiths for a syndicate comprising Stuart Adam, Chris Brogan, Jonathan Goode, Peter Higginbotham, Alister & Michael Inglis, Paul Kojadelian, Terry & Jenny Mahoney and Steve O’ Sullivan.

Swettenham finished Cup day with front-running winner Saint Angers.  The Peter Moody trained mare defied running down in the Highview Accounting Services Hcp (1400m).

Saint Angers (4m Redoute’s Choice – Abonnement by Marauding) is a beautifully bred mare by a Champion Australian sire and she is a sister to Flemington stakes winner Gonski.

Their dam Abonnement is a half-sister to Swettenham homebred Schubert (Salieri) who won the G2 MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes before splitting Encounter and General Nediym in the G1 MRC Caulfield Guineas.

Peter Moody’s foreman Tom Brideoake predicted there are more wins in store for Saint Angers.  “She’s very honest and had enough natural speed to roll to the front,” Brideoake said.  “She got a few cheap sectionals and we were confident she could hold them out.”

Swettenham sold Saint Angers for $300,000 as a foal at the 2008 Magic Millions National Sale.  Earlier that year, Moody bought Black Caviar for $210,000 out of the Swettenham draft at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Black Caviar has won over $3.95 million and she also won over the hearts of a nation after equalling Phar Lap’s record in the G2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
