More Rockets from Raheen

Raheen Stud returns to the Magic Millions sales complex this weekend with a draft of yearlings that may well include another Rocket To Glory.

Twelve months ago, Raheen sold Rocket To Glory for $20,000 on the Gold Coast and the youngster is the one to beat in the $100,000 QTIS 600 Parry Nissan Final in Townsville this Saturday (4.12pm).

Rocket To Glory (2g Shovhog – English Summer by Dodge) was purchased by trainer John Manzelmann and is raced by his wife Stacey and several Longreach based clients.  He came to town last month and ran a tip-top fifth to Benfica in the LR Hampden Stakes at Doomben.

The Raheen bred flyer returned home to win the QTIS 600 Parry Nissan Prelude at Townsville last Tuesday week and he has opened a $3 favourite for the Final.

Raheen has a quality team of yearlings by its Redoute’s Choice stallion Stromberg Carlson entered for the Magic Millions National Sale including a half-sister to the dam of Rocket To Glory.

The Stromberg Carlson – Go Madge filly (Lot 2218) is also a half-sister to Dodging who won 7 sprints, including 5 at Eagle Farm, for trainer John Hawkes.

Raheen’s Stromberg Carlson – O’Venus filly (Lot 2074) has a pedigree that received an important update in Hong Kong recently.  Her older half-brother Jade Molly is a last-start winner of the HK$850,000 Pok Oi Cup (1200m) at Sha Tin.

Jade Molly was originally offered by Raheen at the 2008 Magic Millions Summer yearling sale but failed to reach a $25,000 reserve.

Originally named Men Are From Mars, he went ahead and won at Cranbourne for Mick Kent in June 2010 before Hong Kong agents swooped with a sizeable offer on behalf of trainer Ricky Yiu.

Jade Molly is nominated to resume from a 10 week break at Sha Tin this Sunday.  “His half-sister is a lovely filly,” Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan jnr said this week.  “There’s plenty of scope about her and another overseas update this weekend will help.”

Another likely type by Stromberg Carlson is the colt from Bailiff (Lot 2161).  “He looks a runner, for sure,” Nolan said.  “He’s an athletic colt and the dam’s first two foals are ready to win.”

Bailiff’s 3yo filly Grandma Sneezy was beaten a lip at the Gold Coast in January and Ron Macrae’s 2yo gelding Skilful Pat defeated Peterhof in a Toowoomba barrier trial in March.

The final Stromberg Carlson to parade is the filly from Mine Counter (Lot 2259).  “You can’t fault her on type,” Nolan claimed.  “She’s a strong individual and is from a Zeditave mare related to Racing To Win.”

Stromberg Carlson is a Redoute’s Choice half-brother to Testa Rossa.  He won at Randwick and was stakes placed at Doomben before retiring to Raheen where he has sired the winners of 82 races with three crops racing.

Raheen will also present yearlings by Snippetson, Zizou and Bradbury’s Luck at the National Sale.

The Snippetson – Our Favourite Miss filly (Lot 1618) is probably the pick of the draft on type.  Her dam won at Doomben and second dam Miss Jugah was a G3 winner of the Mannerism Stakes at Caulfield.

The Zizou – Frangipani filly (Lot 1943) is a strong looking chestnut and should get going early on.  She is from the first crop of a precocious young stallion and is a half-sister to Competitive Edge who won first-up at the Gold Coast in January.

The Bradbury’s Luck – Lady of Jewels colt (Lot 2012) is a big, grey youngster by an up-and-coming Glenlogan Park sire.  The mare’s first foal My New Boss has a bright future in Singapore going on his debut fourth to Mr Big at Kranji on May 13.

Mr Big came out and franked the form a week later in the G2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe.  My New Boss (Stromberg Carlson) was a $20,000 buy for trainer Brian Dean out of the Raheen draft at the 2010 Magic Millions 2YO HIT Sale.
