New Celebrity for Starcraft

Starcraft’s latest classic candidate arrived with a flourish at Flemington on Saturday.

Celebrity Girl (3f Starcraft – Dashing Granada by Keltrice) looked right at home on the big stage with a commanding victory in the Listed VRC Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m).

“She is well above average,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said.  “The Thousand Guineas might be a little brave because she is so brilliant but she does settle well.”

Kavanagh bought Celebrity Girl for $500,000 from Yarraman Park at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  “She was a pretty good sort,” Kavanagh said.  “She had a massive girth and a really nice walk.  It’s the right time of the year to have a filly like her.”

Celebrity Girl is raced by Trevor and Beth Robertson and Kavanagh put her away after a debut win at Sandown in April.

Starcraft stands at Arrowfield Stud for a $44,000 (inc gst) service fee.  He got the half-million dollar graduate from Dashing Granada who won a Flemington stakes race of her own in February 2000.

Arrowfield sold Dashing Granada in foal to Starcraft for $200,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Winter Sale.  The mare returned to Starcraft last year and is due to foal any day now.

Starcraft has now sired 9 stakes winners headed by Group 1 winners Star Witness and We Can Say It Now.  He is also Group 1 bound with Caulfield Guineas aspirants Do You Think and Secret Hills.

Secret Hills finished third in the LR Henry Bucks Best Dressed Hcp at Flemington on Saturday.  And Starcraft filly Hallowell Belle ran out of her skin when runner-up to Sepoy in the G2 Danehill Stakes at headquarters.
