Arrowfield Stud’s champion stallion Redoute’s Choice sired his the 65th stakes winner when King’s Rose scored a convincing Listed victory in the John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton on Sunday.
King’s Rose (3f Redoute’s Choice – Nureyev’s Girl by Nureyev) was bred in New Zealand by High Fashion Ltd and is raced by Hong Kong-based owner Dr Gene Tsoi.
The filly was an easy debut winner at Taupo 12 months ago when trained by Mark Walker. She then lined up in two Group 1 races and did well to finish fifth in both events before going out for a spell.
Te Akau’s New Zealand trainer Jason Bridgman took over her preparation this season and she resumed with a second placing at Motukarara last month.
King’s Rose defeated more experienced stakes winners Upsala and Princess Emmy at Ashburton on Sunday and she is a bright chance for the G1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas on November 13. Her dam Nureyev’s Girl was a stakes-placed winner in Adelaide and she is a half-sister to Sydney stakeswinner Roanoke (Danehill).
Zardetto (3c Redoute’s Choice – Champagne by Zabeel) is another smart youngster by Redoute’s Choice in New Zealand this season. He won on debut at Taupo on October 6.
