Oratorio and Blackfriars top Day 3 at Perth Magic Millions

Yearlings by Oratorio and Blackfriars shared the honours at $110,000 during Day 3 of the Perth Magic Millions at Belmont on Thursday.

Trevor Andrews, bidding on behalf of Craig Thompson’s Mt Hallowell Stud, topped the leader-board with Mungrup Stud’s Oratorio filly from Klazig.  She is the third foal of a Sydney winning Flying Spur mare who hails from the family of G1 winners Rouslan and Quick Star.

The Blackfriars – Crossed Wires colt from Durham Lodge joined her on top of the Select Session when Neville Parnham outbid the Penang Turf Club.  He is a three quarter brother to Wynyard Hall who is the dam of Magic Millions Perth 2YO Classic winner Darlington Abbey.

Darlington Abbey’s trainer Simon Miller purchased nine yearlings during the Select Sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.  “I’ve bought some lovely yearlings,” Miller said.  “And I will be back on Saturday night for the General Session – I love the Perth Sales!”

The two-day Select Sale grossed of $5.40 million at an average of $24,000.  The clearance rate was 69 per cent.

“Quality yearlings sold to a strong buying bench,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.  “There’s a reason behind most of the passed in lots and breeders need to reassess where they are at with that style of horse.”

The General Session on Day 4 will be held from 5.30pm (WA time) on Saturday and a Racehorse Sale will follow immediately after the last yearling goes under the hammer.
