More Than Ready colt Raceway is a firming favourite for the G1 Golden Slipper after a no-frills first in the Listed ATC Canonbury Stakes at Warwick Farm.
The Gai Waterhouse trained youngster had won by four lengths on debut at Warwick Farm on January 7.
Raceway (2c More Than Ready – Claws by Flying Spur) is now a $6 favourite with TAB Sportsbet for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 7. He prevailed after a tough head-to-head duel with Shelford second-up on Saturday.
“You don’t have to win Golden Slippers by ten lengths,” Waterhouse said. “I’ve won three of them and you only have to win by a head. He’s very exciting.”
Raceway has all the same connections as 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring. He was bred by Corumbene Stud and Waterhouse prepares him for Star Thoroughbred’s manager Denise Martin. Both colts also represent the very successful More Than Ready – Flying Spur cross.
Raceway is a $150,000 graduate of the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale. Vinery champion More Than Ready got him from Claws who has already thrown the minor winners Lets Hussle (Hussonet) and Vortex (Reset). She has a Not a Single Doubt filly on the ground.
It’s the family of Group 1 winners Cameronic (SAJC Goodwood Hcp) and Fire Arch (Turffontein Premier’s Cup).
