The Bostonian will continue his spring campaign at Randwick this Saturday in the G2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) or G2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m).

The son of Roselee Park sire Jimmy Choux (NZ) finished seventh first-up in the G1 Winx Stakes (1400m) prior to a change of stables on Monday.  He transferred to Rosehill from Bjorn Baker’s yard at Warwick Farm after flying in from NZ last month.

Kiwi-based trainer Tony Pike confirmed The Bostonian is now based at his Sydney satellite with stable foreman Chris McNab and trackwork rider Matthew Ward.  “He has done really well,” Pike said.  “We will decide which race he will run in on Wednesday.

“I was happy with his effort in the Winx Stakes.  He followed such a hot speed and it told over the closing stages going 1400m first-up.  They were going pretty quick early on and most of those who were up there around him dropped out in the straight.

“He looked like he was going to burst away but probably just plateaued out after peaking in the last furlong.  He will improve a heap and I don’t think he was disgraced by any means.”

The $500,000 George Main Stakes (1600m) is the next Group 1 under consideration at Randwick on September 19.  “We don’t really have a major target,” Pike admitted.  “The money is so good, winning just one of them would be very worthwhile.”

Jimmy Choux’s top-class 4yo mare Two Illicit has remained in NZ and is being set for the Group 1 carnival at Hawkes Bay from September 19 to October 17.

Last season, she won the G2 Waikato Guineas (2000m) by seven lengths before going down a length when runner-up in the G1 NZ Derby.  Trelawney Stud owner-breeders Brent and Cherry Taylor race her with trainers Roger James and Robert Wellwood

Two Illicit had a trial at Taupo last month but never saw daylight from an inside barrier behind Group 1 winning filly Avantage (Fastnet Rock).  “She had a good blow and I’m happy enough with the way she went,” Wellwood said.  “But it would have been nice to see her get a bit of room and be able to extend out to the line and have a solid hit-out.

“She has strengthened right up and looks immaculate.  Vinnie (Colgan) was very happy with the way she felt and she is coming up just as we had hoped.  She is a mare who is going to excel once she gets to a mile plus.”

It would be remiss of WA breeders not to give every opportunity to a proven Group 1 stallion like Jimmy Choux.  The son of Thorn Park was a NZ Horse of the Year and stands his second season in Serpentine for a $4,950 service fee.

Roselee Park’s Wayne and Tracy Rodwell also stand Vital Equine (Ire) for $3,300.  His latest Perth winner arrived last Saturday when Tick Along broke through in a Westspeed maiden (1600m) at Belmont.

Tick Along was bred by Yarradale Stud and he has a 2yo full-brother by Vital Equine.  The unnamed gelding is the final foal of G2 Light Fingers Stakes winner Only Glory (Honour And Glory).
