Randwick record-breaker for Charge Forward

Arrowfield stallion Charge Forward sired Group 1 winning filly Headway in his first crop and he has followed up with another potential top-liner named Solar Charged.

Headway was runner-up in the G1 Golden Slipper and returned this spring to beat the colts in the G1 Coolmore Stakes at Flemington.  The Makybe filly is from a mare by Danehill’s Golden Slipper winner Flying Spur while Solar Charged is out of the Danehill mare Soul Singer.

Predicting Solar Charged can also reach the elite level might be a bit premature, nevertheless, she is the best juvenile seen out in Sydney this season.  The John O’Shea trained filly raced away to a five length victory in the Jim Beam Handicap at Randwick on Saturday clocking a class record 57.97s for 1100 metres.

“She’s the most impressive juvenile I’ve ever won on,” jockey Corey Brown said.  “The top of the ladder by far.  We were highballing and she quickened off a hot tempo.  It was amazing.”

Solar Charged (2f Charge Forward – Soul Singer by Danehill) is raced by owner-breeder Peter Horwitz whose colours have been carried by G1 gallopers like Sir Dapper and Juggler.

Horwitz also raced Charge Forward who captured the G2 Todman Slipper Trial and Listed Breeders’ Plate but was denied a G1 when beaten a short-neck by Dance Hero in the 2004 Golden Slipper.  He is by Red Ransom and stands for a $27,500 fee at Arrowfield.

Solar Charged is a half-sister to Causeway Queen (Giant’s Causeway), a Listed winner of the Tasmanian Oaks and Strutt Stakes.  Their dam Soul Singer was trained by Guy Walter and won at Warwick Farm, Wyong and Newcastle before for Horwitz retired her to stud in 2002.

Soul Singer is a daughter of Sir Dapper mare Aretha who was a Listed winner of the Crown Lager Stakes at Moonee Valley on the same day Almaarad won the 1989 Cox Plate.

A full sister to Solar Charged has been catalogued for the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  She is being prepared for Horwitz by Vinery Stud.

Vinery’s Adam White said the filly would have plenty of admirers.  “Solar Charged was reared on the property and her yearling sister is a lot like her at the same stage.  She’s a lovely filly and we’re looking forward to getting her up there in January.”
