Reverend rewarded in Kalgoorlie

Reverend Lovejoy is still alive for the $100,000 Goldfields Triple Crown after winning the Listed Boulder Cup at Kalgoorlie on Sunday.  The Adam Durrant trained gelding repelled a late challenge from Gondorff to win the second leg of the bonus series by a nose.

Reverend Lovejoy (6g Love A Dane – Bold Joy by Bold Rancher) won the first leg in the Coolgardie Cup on August 30 and connections will collect the Triple Crown bonus if he is successful in the Listed $150,000 Kalgoorlie Cup this Sunday.

“I thought Gondorff had got us on the line,” Durrant said as jockey Peter Hall brought the gelding back to scale.  “But he’s such a great competitor that he found the line again.”

Reverend Lovejoy was a $6,500 buy from Rangeview Stud’s draft at the 2005 Perth Magic Millions Sale.  His bank account will rocket past $700,000 if completes the hat-trick next Sunday.

His sire Love a Dane (Danehill – Tristalove) is a regally bred stallion who  started stud life at Rangeview before transferring to Phylarba Park.

He has sired four stakes winners and the best of them until now has been Translate who won the 2008 VRC Matron Stakes (G3) at Flemington.

Reverend Lovejoy is from a half sister to Bellavega who was a Listed winner of the Australia Day Stakes at Ascot.  But her main claim to fame is as the dam of G2 Perth Cup winner Heed the Toll (Serheed).
