Well-bred mare Wilchino is building her residual value with four city wins in her last five starts for trainer Dan Morton and a syndicate managed by his wife Carol.

Her EPONA credits have also risen to $7,050 but connections won’t be in a hurry to use them anytime soon.  Following a belated start to her racing career, the 5yo daughter of Maschino will stay in work for this season at least.

Wilchino has faced the starter just 7 times due to a severe knee injury.  “It was pretty nasty – she fractured a knee early on and the owners have been rewarded for being patient,” Morton said after her front-running victory in the Free Entry To Belmont Park Hcp (1000m) on Saturday.  “She’s the real deal and that was very impressive.  She’s fast and finished them off today.”

Replacement jockey Brad Rawiller settled Wilchino into a rhythm and she sprinted off the corner to gap City Circle (City Place) and Express Time (War Chant) in a quick 57.87s.  “She was in the right mindset behind the gates and I was happy to let that flow knowing she would kick,” Rawiller explained.  “She’s a professional and with more racing will keep going in the right direction.”

Alwyn Park’s John Andrew bred and sold Wilchino for $55,000 at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions.  She’s the final foal of Wild Park (Bletchley Park) and follows winners by Trade Fair (2), Blackfriars, Alfred Nobel and Patronize.

Alwyn Park consigned all six to the Perth Magic Millions between 2012 and 2018 for a total return over $230,000.  Wild Park’s older full-sister Kim Lisa was a Listed winner of the 2003 Helena Vale Cup defeating that year’s G1 Kingston Town Classic winner True Steel.

Maschino (Encosta de Lago) stands at Alwyn Park in Serpentine for an unchanged service fee of $6,600 (inc GST) despite constantly improving stats this year.  His winners to runners record is hovering above 62% and his stakes-performers to winners is an amazing 29%.
