Rosemont Stars at Arqana Sale

Rosemont Stud owner Anthony Mithen sold two mares in foal to his sub-fertile sire Starspangledbanner at the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale in Deauville on Saturday.

Both mares were sold in foal to northern hemisphere time through Edwige Le Metayer’s Haras du Buff consignment – Noisy Feet (Tapit) made 175,000 euros (AUD 259,325) to the bid of agent Mick Flanagan and Scarlet (Dushyantor) was purchased for 40,000 euros (AUD 59,275) by Narvick International.

Noisy Feet won the LR College of New Jersey Stakes at Monmouth Park before being exported to Australia.  Her first live foal is a yearling colt by Toorak Toff.

Scarlet was the Champion 2YO Filly of her year in Chile after winning the G1 Arturo Lyon Pena.  Her latest foal in Australia is a yearling filly by Trusting.

“Starspangledbanner got 15 mares in foal to northern hemisphere time earlier this year and 11 of those are our own,” says Mithen.  “In the current southern hemisphere breeding season, he has 36 out of 75 mares in foal and that that number could rise.  There are still some mares we will try with again so he might make a pregnancy rate of more than 50% for the first time.”

Mithen will sell a Starspangledbanner half-brother to Group 1 South African sprinter Alboran Sea at the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale next month.  “He should be a real archetypal Magic Millions horse, an early two-year-old type.  I’m hoping he can find a buyer who will allow me to stay in the horse, as I think he’s the one most likely to follow in his sire’s footsteps.”
