Silver lining in Wellesley Stakes

Stephen McKee celebrated Cox Plate day when his promising youngster Silver City won the Listed Wellesley Stakes at Trentham on Saturday.

Stephen and his father Trevor McKee trained mighty mare Sunline and the Wellesley winner carries the same light blue, red & yellow colours as the Cox Plate heroine .

Back home after winning the G1 Toorak Hcp with (King) Mufhasa, McKee sent Silver City to Trentham after his narrow victory on debut at Ruakaka.

The Wellesley Stakes has been the launching pad for numerous top-class gallopers including 2006 winner Alamosa who went on to claim the 2008 Toorak Hcp.

Silver City (2g Nothing To Lose – She’s Just Dreamy by Aucash) was a $14,000 purchase as a foal from the Fleetwood Stud draft at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale.  He is by a Willowbend Stud resident from a daughter of Nassipour mare Blushing Bijou (LR Qld Winter Stakes).
