Sixth winner by Pluck

Plucky Star did plenty wrong winning at her first start but she got the job done at Gilgandra on Sunday.

Despite veering out in the straight, the Pluck filly scored by a half-neck in the Coonamble Cellars 2yo Hcp (1100m).  “She jumped and was travelling,” jockey Tony Cavallo reported.  “I thought she was never going to lose but then she started hanging.

“She has a lot to learn.  There’s a lot of improvement there, too, if she curbs her manners.”

Plucky Star (2f Pluck – Overly by Over) is the 6th first-crop winner by Vinery sire Pluck (USA).  She graduated from the 2015 Scone yearling sale and is a half-sister to three winners.  Their dam Overly has a Pluck yearling filly with Cranbourne trainer Mick Huglin.

“She has plenty of raw ability,” stable foreman Ben Thompson said.  “She was fired up winning a trial last month and didn’t make it any easier here.  But overall she was better today.”

Pluck (USA) stands alongside his sire More Than Ready and is a replica of the Vinery champion.  His progeny have sold to $200,000 and he stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee.
