Arrowfield sire Snitzel followed his Randwick double on Saturday with another pleasing result at Geelong on Wednesday.
Sydney visitor Top Drop scored a resounding victory in the Dual Choice Plate (1200m) and will now stay down south for his next start at Flemington.
Top Drop (4h Snitzel – Fine Red by Red Ransom) earned the trip away after a first-up win at Randwick in September. “He tries his heart out every time,” trainer Gerald Ryan said. “He’s always shown above average ability and will win a nice race one day.”
Ryan will find a suitable event for him down the famous straight-six during the Melbourne Cup carnival.
Top Drop was a Rosehill winner from four starts as a two year-old. Returning at three, he was only beaten two lengths by Toorak Toff in the G1 Golden Rose and was then runner-up to Decision Time in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick.
On his first trip interstate in January, the Snitzel colt was caught wide in the $1 million Gold Coast 3YO Guineas before running into a place behind Torio’s Quest.
Snitzel got Top Drop from an unraced daughter of Listed VRC St Leger winner Kilspindie (Danehill). He cost $110,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions and is raced by a partnership that includes the Bradley Racing Syndicate, Scott Cameron, Norm & Carolyn Pinder and Wayne Harrison.
The Dual Choice victory sent his prizemoney past $376,000.
Ryan trained Snitzel to a G1 victory in the MRC Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and he is the stallion’s front-man and biggest fan. “The Snitzels are precocious at two and they train on. Top Drop is a four-year-old now and he’s racing as good as ever.”
Snitzel stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee.
The Snitzel yearlings averaged $150,000 at the 2011 Inglis Easter Sale and that was the best of any second-season sire at Newmarket.
