Sparkling debut by Moet Me

Moet Me made an eye-catching debut to win the CMI Busselton Plate (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday.  The Dan Morton trained colt came from last in what was the most impressive performance by a two year-old in Perth so far this season.

Moet Me is by Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio (Aus) and he nailed Oratism by a short head after giving the favourite three lengths at the furlong.  The runner-up is by Coolmore Stud’s former shuttler Oratorio (Ire).

“He’s a nice horse and presented beautifully by Mungrup Stud at the yearling sales,” Morton said.  “I’ve rated him from the outset and adding blinkers really switched him on.”

Moet Me (2c Oratorio – Livorno by Clay Hero) cost $75,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.  He is one of five winners for NZ bred mare Livorno who died in May.  The best of them to date has been LR Illawarra 2YO Classic winner She’s In Demand (Commands).

Morton also purchased the top-priced yearling by a local sire at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions when he paid $205,000 for the Oratorio colt from Zenda (Zabeel).

Oratorio has been WA Champion 2YO Sire twice and those awards coincided with his G2 Karrakatta Plate winners Gold Rocks (2009) and Motion Pictures (2010).  Mungrup studmaster Gray Williamson stands him for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee.
