Competition for a place in the final field for the Karaka Million is hotting up with New Zealand’s richest 2yo race scheduled for Sunday week, January 30.
Darci Brahma youngster Super Easy is assured of a start and he is one of three John Sargent trained runners inside the Top 14 in the Order of Entry.
Super Easy was bought by Singapore-based trainer Michael Freedman under the Blue Sky Thoroughbreds banner for $140,000 from Esker Lodge. He was the first horse Freedman had purchased for Singapore’s Joy N Happiness Stable.
“We had the idea of buying a colt from the Karaka Sales and leaving him in New Zealand for 12 months,” Freedman said. “Happily the plan is coming together so far and he’s in with a good chance.”
Super Easy edged out Planet Rock (Fastnet Rock) on debut at Trentham on December 4 and followed up with a nose second to Anabandana (Anabaa) in the G3 Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.
Freedman is particularly pleased with how the horse is coming along. “His first start was very impressive, he ran a good time and the form out of that race was strong. I thought he was a bit unlucky at his last start when he was taken on in front. But he showed plenty of determination which was good to see.
“Win, lose or draw in the Karaka Million, he will be heading to the spelling paddock. We will then decide whether to bring him straight up to Singapore or keep him in NZ for their two-year-old races later in the season.”
Super Easy (2c Darci Brahma – Parfore by Gold Brose) is a half-brother to dual Ipswich Cup winner Our Lukas (Generous). Their dam Parfore is a half-sister to the dam of NZ 2YO Group I winner Il Quello Veloce.
His sire Darci Brahma (Danehill) stands for a $20,000 fee at The Oaks Stud after a career that included G1 victories in the T J Smith Classic and NZ 2000 Guineas. He is out of G1 winner Grand Echezeaux (Zabeel) and is also closely related to champion mare Ethereal.
