Temple triumph for Toowoomba

Hot favourite Temple of Boom scored an emotional win for his Toowoomba based connections in the $200,000 Myer Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Temple of Boom (4g Piccolo – Temple Spirit by Special Dane) scraped home in a driving finish to defeat Huckleberry Dane (King Of Danes) and Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer).

Trainer Tony Gollan described the win as one of the real highlights of his training career.  “We’re awfully proud of him.  Training a winner on Magic Millions Day is something I’ve always wanted to do being a Queensland boy.”

Temple of Boom was a $40,000 graduate 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  He was offered by Eureka Stud and owners Col and Scott McAlpine kept a share which has turned out to be lucrative decision.

Temple of Boom has earned over $580,000 from 7 wins in 18 starts including the Listed VRC Swisse Stakes at Flemington during the last Melbourne Cup carnival.  He is an older half-brother to brilliant Sequalo colt Spirit of Boom who was fifth home in the Magic Millions Guineas on Saturday.

Gollan didn’t know until late in the week even if he’d be able to get his sprint star to the track after the flood disaster which particularly struck the Toowoomba region.  “It was a very eerie drive down here.  A lot of places look a lot different to the I last went past.”

Temple of Boom will most likely have a short break prior to a crack at the G1 The Galaxy at the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
