Third time lucky for Statue Of Liberty

Statue Of Liberty has the score on the board with his first two crops in Australia and Broadway Harmony opened his third in style at Moonee Valley on Friday night.  The Darren Weir trained filly sat on the pace under Sebastian Murphy and defied the closers to win by more than a length on debut.

Broadway Harmony (2f Statue Of Liberty – No Peace by Rokosz) paid her way straight away for syndicator Darren Dance having cost just $18,000 from the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Autumn yearling sale.

Statue Of Liberty originally shuttled to Blue Gum Farm for three years between 2004 and 2006 but did not return due to the E.I. crisis.  Coolmore Stud subsequently sold him to East Stud in Japan but, after an absence of two years and an avalanche of winners, he was hot property in Australia.

Cranbourne trainer Greg Eurell won five straight with Mic Mac including an away win in the G2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill.  Tassie filly Tempest Tost won the rich 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Trophy, Perth star Hay List won 8 from 8 and there was black-type for his talented fillies Dan Baroness and Elysees.

Blue Gum Farm wanted Statue Of Liberty back for 2009 but lost out in a bidding duel to Eliza Park.  Five years earlier, the Euroa nursery suffered a similar setback when Coolmore Stud relocated Encosta de Lago to the Hunter Valley.

Eliza Park doubled Statue Of Liberty’s fee to $16,000 and he covered a book of 156 mares which was more than his last two seasons combined at Blue Gum.

Statue Of Liberty was a US$1.3 million buy at the 2001 Keeneland yearling sale.  He is by Storm Cat and is a half-brother to Lemon Drop Kid from the family of A.P.Indy.

In a restricted racing career for a Coolmore partnership, he was a G2 winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and as a three year-old was a head second to Reel Buddy in the G1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

In the Australian first-season sires’ premiership for 2007-8, Statue Of Liberty finished fifth behind Exceed and Excel, Falbrav, Lonhro and Danroad.  He was fourth to Darley sires Exceed And Excel, Lonhro and Reset in the second-season sires’ title in 2008-09 and he’s sitting pretty in the same spot half-way through the current season.

Broadway Harmony was just the third Statue Of Liberty juvenile to face the starter this season.   His speedy filly Handsfree Lass knocked up at Seymour in January while Gooree Pastoral filly Handsfree Lass was midfield behind Elimbari at Rosehill in February.

Broadway Harmony’s dam No Peace is out of a winning half-sister to Listed VRC Vanity Stakes winner No Mischief (Mister C).  The mare has since foaled a colt and a filly by Swettenham sire Keep The Faith and was covered by Chatswood sire Primus in November.
