Hold That Tiger sired his second feature winner in Tasmania this week thanks to a brilliant debut by Tiger’s Cub in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Launceston on Wednesday.
Tiger’s Cub (2g Hold That Tiger – Grandchildrenslove by Noverre) set up a commanding lead at the top of the straight and then denied late closers Western Hero (West Quest) and Kenjorwood (Snippetson).
Former Swettenham Stud resident Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat) was in the frame at Elwick on Sunday when his filly Temper Tantrum won the Listed Strutt Stakes.
Tiger’s Cub was a $30,000 buy at the 2011 Tasmanian Magic Millions for Caulfield trainer Jim Mason. “He will stay down here and head to the Gold Sovereign Stakes,” Mason said. “He was pretty green but still won well.”
Tiger’s Cub was bred and sold by Alwyn Shaw’s Aceland Stud. Shaw kept a share and retained part of the prizemoney that he put up as a sponsor of the event.
Hold That Tiger got the Magic Millions winner from a direct descendant of champion filly Intrepidity (Sadler’s Wells) who was a G1 winner of the 1993 English Oaks, Prix Vermeille and Prix Saint-Alary.
