Red Ransom has died at Vinery Australia aged 22. The son of Roberto was put down on Saturday due to complications after intestinal surgery.
Red Ransom enjoyed a successful spring with All American (Emirates Stakes) and Typhoon Tracy (Myer Classic) winning Group 1 events on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington.
Red Ransom was raced by Paul Mellon and broke the Saratoga track record on debut when he clocked 56.40s for 1000 metres. His career was restricted to just three starts but was an immediate success at stud with G1 winner Bail Out Becky (Del Mar Oaks) and G2 winner Sri Pekan (Coventry Stakes) in his first crop.
He went on to sire the northern hemisphere G1 winners Casual Look (English Oaks), Intikhab (Queen Anne Stakes), Red Clubs (Haydock Sprint Cup), Electrocutionist (Dubai World Cup) and Perfect Sting (BC Filly & Mare Turf).
His G1 winners Australia, besides All American and Typhoon Tracy, included Charge Forward, Onemorenomore, Duporth and Red Dazzler. His sire sons in this part of the world are headed by Charge Forward (Arrowfield), Face Value (Lindsay Park), Domesay (Darley), Markane and Red Dazzler (Eureka).
Red Ransom shuttled to Dalham Hall Stud until 2008 when it was decided to keep him in Australia where he stood for a $66,000 service fee.
