New Zealand bred colt Oracy maintained his unbeaten record at Turffontein on Tuesday when he won an allowance plate over 1600m.  It was his first start back after an eight-month spell.

Oracy (4c Zabeel – Lady Dehere by Dehere) is trained by Charles Laird for Marcus Jooste and was a $400,000 buy out of the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Karaka yearling sale.

The Zabeel galloper took the lead first-up and was kept in front by Anton Marcus to win running away by 2.5 lengths from Aussie bred gelding Seattle Ice (4g Xaar – Seattle Rhyme by Seattle Dancer).

Oracy has now won five from five including the G2 Dingaans and Gauteng Guineas over a mile.  Laird will set him for the upcoming Gauteng features including the G1 Summer Cup.

Bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, Oracy is from G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner Lady Dehere.  She is a half-sister to Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio (Stravinsky) who is making a huge impact in WA with his first crop runners that includes G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Gold Rocks and emerging star Waratah’s Secret.  The latter will be a hot favourite for the G2 WA Guineas after a super-impressive victory in the Listed Belgravia Stakes at Belmont last Saturday.

Oracy’s second dam Hold That Smith (Haulpak) was WA’s Horse of the Year in 1988-89.
