Peter Moody and Zabeel were back in Group 1 mode when Lights of Heaven maintained her unbeaten record in the SAJC Australasian Oaks at Morphettville on Saturday.
Moody’s champion mare Black Caviar had won the G1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night and Zabeel’s latest G1 winner arrived right on the back of Zavite’s upset in the BMW at Rosehill last Saturday.
Lights Of Heaven (3f Zabeel – I’m In Heaven by Volksraad) is the most improved filly in training since a seven length debut at Cranbourne in January. She doubled up at Sandown and then completed a hat-trick in the G2 Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic.
“She could be one right out of the box,” Moody said. “It’s still her first preparation and I’m not sure whether to keep her in work for Sydney or send her to the paddock.”
Lights Of Heaven is raced by owner-breeder Judy Wanless and is from a sister to G3 Hawke’s Bay Highview Stakes winner Eloa. Her dam I’m In Heaven has a 2yo colt named Innovate (O’Reilly) and she followed up with fillies by Darci Brahma and Savabeel. She was covered by Mastercraftsman last year.
Zabeel weighed in with another stakes winner as a broodmare sire when Galizani won the LR Epona Stakes at Rosehill. The Patinack Farm owned mare is another improver and she was suited by the step up to 1900m on Saturday.
Galizani (4m Galileo – Zahani by Zabeel) had won at Pakenham and Sandown in September and she overhauled Vivid Vixen in the lead-up to staying events in Sydney and Brisbane.
She was a $140,000 buy from Kia-Ora Stud at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale when Anthony Cummings signed the Patinack sale sheets. Her dam Zahani is from G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Danarani (Danehill).
Zabeel is the damsire of 73 stakes winners but Galizani is the first by Galileo. The 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale includes 29 lots from Zabeel mares. They include a brother to Samantha Miss in addition to progeny from his G1 winners Unearthly, Dizelle, Champagne and Vouvray.
