Zenyatta half-sister sold for seven-figures

A yearling half-sister to 2010 USA Horse of the Year Zenyatta has been purchased by a mystery Irish-based buyer.

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing reports the filly by Henrythenavigator has been sold for a seven-figure sum in a deal brokered by bloodstock agent Dermot Farrington.

Zenyatta’s dam Vertigineux (Kris S) was owned by Eric Kronfeld’s Maverick Productions before being bought by Coolmore Stud in 2009.  Kronfeld kept her 2009 Bernardini filly who has been named Eblouissante.  She has just entered training in California with John Shirreffs.

Vertigineux foaled the Henrythenavigator filly in question in March last year and she delivered another Henrythenavigator filly last month.

Vertigineux was named North American Broodmare of the Year in 2008.  In addition to producing Zenyatta (Street Cry), she is also the dam of stakes-winners Balance (Thunder Gulch) and Where’s Bailey (Aljabr).

Now in retirement at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky, Zenyatta was originally scanned in foal after being served by Bernardini on February 23.  She came up empty on a 35 day check and owners Jerry and Ann and Moss are awaiting results of a second mating with the Darley sire in April.
