Zizou strikes gold with You’re Mine

Turangga Farm homebred You’re Mine gave her sire Zizou a winning start to his stud career at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

You’re Mine (2f Zizou – Nickabella by Picnicker) powered home from well back on the home turn to score by a long neck in the Jeff (Hollywood) McCarter Hcp (900m).

The David Kelly trained filly had been a good thing beaten on debut at the Sunshine Coast on November 20.  She went down a short neck after shifting ground at the start and being held up for clear running at the top of the straight.

You’re Mine is the first foal of Nickabella who won races at Mornington (2) and Stony Creek.  There’s no black-type of any significance in her pedigree and Turangga owner Stuart Ramsey bought the mare for just $5,000 at the 2008 Inglis Great Southern Sale.

Zizou retired to Turangga after a 14 start career that began with a Listed victory in the VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington.

He followed up with seconds to Shrewd Rhythm (G3 Blue Diamond Prelude), Sleek Chassis (G1 Blue Diamond), Meurice (G2 Todman Slipper) and Forensics (G1 Golden Slipper).

Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus) is out of the stakes placed mare Natural Is My Name, a half-sister to leading Arrowfield sire Not A Single Doubt.  The family also features Australian champion sire Snippets.

The Zizou breakthrough completes a very successful 2011 for Turangga Stud.  The Scone based nursery bred and sold Karuta Queen (Not A Single Doubt) who won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

Ramsey also bred the very promising three year-old colts Huegill (More Than Ready) and Beckon (Charge Forward) as well as the stakes winning fillies Panipique (Testa Rossa) and Elite Falls (More Than Ready).

Zizou stands for an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee and Turangga has catalogued 19 of his 21 yearlings entered for the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
